Cyber Shadows Power Crime and Hacking Everyone Carolyn Nordstrom Lisa Carlson Reviews
This book is a definite must-read. I was intrigued by the modern day look on white collar crime that it presented. Not to mention, the prevalence of its topic in today's society. Worth every penny!
I've been in publishing for 40 years and responsible for a thousand books; Cyber Shadows ranks as one of the most important and very best of those. Anyone who wants to understand the full extent of the cyber revolution and the impact of hacking on international politics, economies, and individual security, identity and privacy will find this book essential reading. It is well-researched, clear and compelling.
This book is an eye-opener and a must-read for anyone who wants to understand current and future arenas of global domination and resistance. In an ethnography that is as breathtaking and straightforward as her earlier work on war-zones and their global shadows, Carolyn Nordstrom (with Lisa Carlson) takes us this time into the shadowed spaces of cyber technology, and once again provides us with mind-wrecking insights into the realities of the world we live in.
It's 2017 now and this book was based on 2012 information. It's 5 years out of date. I thought I would get some basic meat as who exactly the bad hackers were, specifically what they stole, and how they were tracked down, or why they never could be tracked down. It's just a compilation of a lot of technical articles and news stories woven into a book format. Both the authors are academics so the biblio is important so they don't get accused of plagiarism. I give them credit for that. It really doesn't tell you anything that you don't already know especially if you even have a lay interest in this stuff. It's filled with anecdotal comments and future speculation which is probably true, but we all know most of the vulnerability now. There are a few WW II spy catcher books about the British that got into the nuts and bolts of how they did stuff. This book just doesn't do it for me. Sorry!
Informative! Impressive research!
This is a fantastic book. I enjoyed reading it and was shocked to learn to many new things about the cyber world. The book had a huge impact on me. I've already loaned the book to a friend.
This book was an eye-opening, informative read about the world of cyber crime, a growing concern in today's society. I'd recommend this book to any young person that uses the internet, as it discusses issues of privacy and our identities online.
